Biometric
Consortium Electronic Discussion Group (LISTSERV) Guidelines
The Biometric Consortium Electronic Discussion Group
(LISTSERV) is provided to members free by the Biometric Consortium and is
intended to encourage the open exchange of biometric technology ideas and
information between government, industry and academia members. The
intended subject matter is research, development, test, evaluation and
application of biometric-based personal identification/verification
technology.
The sharing of information between the biometric research community,
biometric technology providers, and biometric technology implementers is
one of the key benefits the Biometric Consortium. Vendors are encouraged
to participate in discussions and their technical contributions are
welcomed.
From time to time, some members have used the Discussion Group as a
"marketing" tool for advertising their products or services to
the list membership. This type of usage diverges from the intended
application of the Discussion Group and is contrary to the neutral stance
adopted by the Biometric Consortium. These "advertising" type
postings detract from the intended purpose of the Discussion Group. The
Biometric Consortium does not endorse, recommend or suggest any particular
biometric device or vendor and cannot allow the Consortium Discussion
Group to appear to endorse any technology or product. (It is certainly
appropriate for members to identify the companies they work for and
include e-mail addresses, phone numbers, or web page links in their
postings.) If any additional clarifications are needed, please
contact the Co-Chairs or send an e-mail to The
Biometric Consortium respectfully requests that all Discussion Group
members refrain from posting marketing or advertising type postings.
Members who continue to take inappropriate advantage of the list's
capabilities will be removed from the Discussion Group.
The growth in the Discussion Group has been impressive. Over
1,000
members have access to the list traffic each day. All members are
encouraged to use good judgment when posting to such a large and diverse
audience. In many cases, a personal reply directly to the author of a
posting is more appropriate than sharing the response with all the
members. |
