Authenti-Corp hosts Biometrics Showcase at the
Optical Society of America’s Science Educator’s Day

[October 26, 2005 - Phoenix, Arizona] Authenti-Corp is pleased to announce the success of the Optical Society of America’s annual Science Educator’s Day (OSA EDay) held on October 20th, 2005. The event this year, themed Seeing the World through the Many Eyes of Optics, featured a Biometrics Showcase with optical fingerprint, facial, and iris recognition activities.

Approximately 70 attendees gathered in Tucson, Arizona to enjoy a wide variety of optics demonstrations and hands-on activities, which included six biometrics demonstrations. Representatives from Authenti-Corp and from the West Virginia University Student Society for the Advancement of Biometrics (WVU SSAB) presented the biometrics activities. The event provided a high-quality learning experience for high school and middle school science educators with special emphasis on experiments that can be replicated in the classroom.

Through the generosity of the event’s sponsors, each educator took back to their classroom one of the following:

• a fingerprint recognition system consisting of a SecuGen Hamster III optical fingerprint reader using demo software provided by BIOkey International,

• a facial recognition system using of a standard webcam and FaceVACS demo software provided by Cognitec, or

• an iris recognition system with a Panasonic Authenticam iris imaging device using PrivateID demo software, both provided by Iridian Technologies.

Authenti-Corp developed technical documentation for the educators explaining how to set up and use the biometric systems in their classrooms. The documentation included hardware and software installation instructions, a brief overview of biometric concepts, and step-by-step instructions for performing various classroom exercises to demonstrate biometric concepts and technology to students. Authenti-Corp also developed several experiments to illustrate the Optics of Fingerprinting using documentation provided by Lumidigm. In addition, Authenti-Corp is providing ongoing biometric system technical support to the educators.

The educators thoroughly enjoyed the biometrics activities and were eager to set up the technology in their classrooms. Authenti-Corp gratefully acknowledges the biometric sponsors of the event, BIO-key International, Cognitec, Iridian Technologies, SecuGen Biometric Solutions, The Student Society for the Advancement of Biometrics, West Virginia University, and Lumidigm, for their generous contributions that made the 2005 OSA EDay Biometrics Showcase an outstanding success.

Authenti-Corp is a small business concern that provides independent, third-party, standards-based performance testing of biometrics and card technologies, security evaluations of biometric technologies, and education and training in all areas of authentication.
