Default RE: New Biometric Consortium Bulletin Board

The following is a copy of an email sent to the Biometrics Consortium List.

    ---------------

    Dear Colleagues,

After nearly four years of being in the biometric community, and nearly four years of quietly reading the Biometric Consortium List, it is with significant reservation that I write my first email to the group.

Although I work as an engineer developing an interesting biometric technology, and although there have been times when I felt that I could add value to a conversation at hand, I have never written to the list for one basic reason: I could never get over the feeling that, despite how valuable I thought my comments might be, I was to some extent clogging the inboxes (dare I say spamming?) of hundreds of professionals whose time and bandwidth might be better spent in other ways. Of course, part of the reason I projected this feeling on others was that I had felt it myself, going through days or weeks of deleting emails that I didn't feel were pertinent to my work or personal interests.

I mean no offense to those of you who are contributors to the list - I understand that you are operating within the confines of the infrastructure we have. Your contributions have been very valuable, and a nice way for me to stay in touch with the industry. However, I, presumably along with others on this list, simply do not feel comfortable with the "push-to-inbox" format. Much more so than the inbox clutter, I feel that this potential lack of information sharing may be the greatest downside of the current format.

I understand that simply writing this email to the group may seem hypocritical. However, I do feel that this is an important view point that, by nature of those who possess it, may not otherwise make its way to the List.

Again, I mean no offense, but I do not plan on responding any further within the confines of the List. I will post this email on the BC message board, and I will be more than happy to discuss the issue further there.

Thanks again to everyone who makes this list a valuable entity. I hope you will join me in transitioning to the message board, where ideas will, perhaps, be more openly shared.

    Best regards,
    Joey Pritikin

It's a good move, it will be a better way of finding out about our community. We have to move on, bulletin boards and blogs are good means of communication in our busy lives.
Looking forward to reading your posts and contributing to BCBB.

    Kind regards

Thanks Ray. It takes a little getting used to but with practice should allow more focused discussions for those with specific information needs.
