The National Biometric Security Project (NBSP) is a non-profit organization, 501(c)(3) application pending, incorporated in Washington, D.C. It is designed to perform an independent public service in support of homeland security objectives. That service will provide unbiased support regarding the application of biometric technology; from development of standards for use and performance, to focused research, training, and education for all levels of government and the private sector that has responsibility for security of the civilian national infrastructure. The National Biometric Security Project mission is to advance the effective application of human identification technology for the security of the civil national infrastructure in direct response to the international terrorist threat. The new nonprofit helps government and private sector organizations deter terrorist attacks on the civil infrastructure by providing unbiased service and support in the acquisition and application of biometric technology where appropriate. Services offered range from development of standards, to focused testing, research, training, and education. Accurate, automated systems for human identification are a critical, often misunderstood component of any effective anti-terrorism program. Proven biometric technologies offer the best practical means to satisfy the need for positive identification in a complex and vulnerable society. Government, industry and academia have pooled resources to create the NBSP with a focused national mission and ready resources to address threats to our nation's infrastructure. |
