Established
by the Deputy Secretary of Defense in 2000, the Department of Defense (DoD)
Biometrics Management Office (BMO) is a congressionally mandated
organization responsible for inserting and implementing biometric
technologies within the DoD. The BMO supports the Secretary of the Army in
its role as Executive Agent for DoD biometrics.
Acting on behalf of the Secretary of the Army through the Army
Chief Information Officer, the BMO leads, consolidates, and coordinates
the development, adoption, and institutionalization of biometric
technologies for Combatant Commanders, Services and Agencies, and to
enhance Joint Service interoperability and warfighter effectiveness.
In light of this mission, the BMO focuses on giving soldiers,
sailors, airmen, and marines a technological edge in all environments by
providing proven, reliable, and effective biometric systems in support of
garrison and combat operations. The
BMO also has responsibility for testing and evaluating biometric
technologies for DoD applications.
To execute this unique mission, the BMO operates the Biometrics
Fusion Center, located in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Contacts: |
